Let Us Not be Content With Little

A.W. Tozer writes in The Pursuit of God:

The doctrine of justification by faith - a biblical truth, and a blessed relief from sterile legalism and unavailing self-effort - has in our time fallen into evil company and been interpreted by many in such a manner as actually to bar men from the knowledge of God.  The whole transaction of religious conversion has been made mechanical and spiritless.  Faith may now be exercised without a jar to the moral life and without embarrassment to the Adamic ego.  Christ may be “received” without creating any special love for Him in the soul of the receiver.  The man is “saved,” but he is not hungry nor thirsty after God.  In fact, he is specifically taught to be satisfied and is encouraged to be content with little.

Brothers and sisters, may we not be content with only a little.  May we hunger and thirst for God.

What a Good Pastor is to Do

This is more for me than for you…but if you benefit, that is all the more better.

Thabiti has been posting some great articles concerning the work of the pastor. Here is what he has posted so far…

A Christmas Challenge from Isaiah

In Isaiah 52:11-12 (ESV), we read these words…

Depart, depart, go out from there; touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her; purify yourselves, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.  For you shall not go out in haste, you shall not go out in flight, for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

What a call to service!  You who possess the knowledge of Truth….go out!  Be pure and holy, and have nothing to do with what is unholy.  You will not be thwarted because the Lord’s plans are unthwarted.  Heed the words, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

In the midst of a time when all is busy, much busier than any other time of the year, be obedient to the responsibility set before you as one who is a vessel of the Lord.

Around the Horn (12/14)

Clemson Football: Here is a recap of the last time that Clemson and Kentucky met in a bowl game.  It was not as lopsided as I am hoping this year’s Music City Bowl will be.  (Sorry Kentucky fans!)

Exposition Preparation:  Steve Weaver has an excellent post and subsequent comment thread regarding his preparation for expositing the gospel of Matthew.

Where Have I Been?

Great question!  I have been busy!  In the life of a servant, there are always needs for the proper ordering of tasks.  Sadly, because it is something that I enjoy, blogging has been pretty low on the list.  I am in full swing in my new ministry position, pastor of the Midlane Park Baptist Church, in Louisville, KY.  What a wonderful, sweet, hard-working people of God are in this place.  My wife and I have also been adjusting to life with my oldest son now in kindergarten at Whitefield Academy.

Things have been great - just busy - and I look forward to writing more for The Gospel and The Kingdom.
