About
I am a husband, father of three kids, pastor, and student. By God’s grace I have a beautiful wife (who treats me far better than I deserve) and the privilege of being a father to two boys and one girl who, needless to say, keeps everyone in the family busy. I also have the privilege of pastoring a wonderful group of people in Louisville, KY. I am the pastor of Midlane Park Baptist Church. It is my desire to see my flock grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am also a student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as a Garrett Fellow to Dr. Charles W. Draper at Boyce College.
When I have a spare moment, I like enjoy life with my wife, play with my kids (which usually involves us getting into some sort of trouble with the aforementioned wife!), reading about Church History, and using and working on my fountain pen collection. I have also been known to play around with computers and web design a bit.
Why “The Gospel and The Kingdom” as the blog name?
I get this question more than one might think! Most people wonder if it is taken from George Eldon Ladd’s Gospel of the Kingdom. While a very wonderful book, that is not the where the title originates. Others have speculated as to origination of the blog name from Graeme Goldsworthy’s Gospel and Kingdom. Also a wonderful book, but not where the title originates.
Actually, the title came from Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s devotional commentary on the book of Matthew entitled The Gospel and the Kingdom. It is a little known book only available from Pilgrim Publications, to the best of my knowledge. It is, perhaps, the best commentary [non-academic] that I have ever read. Spurgeon, all throughout his preaching, always related to his people the gospel lived out in God’s kingdom for the advance of His kingdom. It is my prayer that those who possess the gospel seek to advance God’s kingdom through the proclamation of the gospel and living out gospel principles before a pagan world. As believers in Christ, there are two things we must concern ourselves with supremely, the gospel and the kingdom….
