  • Want a small kitchen garden but you do not have enough space to actually have a garden? Consider this. I think this might also be a way to do some community developments when ministering in multi-housing complexes. I have people in and around the community of my church who can barely feed their families. Teaching and helping them to grow their own food might be one way that we can minister to them physically and spiritually.
  • My wife has been reading a blog about a man and his wife, who has CF and just had a lung transplant. Anyway, in some way, this blog is connected (via a family member). This pastor wrote a three part series on the Pastor and his family, which I found quite true and quite encouraging. Thought I would pass along the three parts about your pastor, your pastor’s wife, and your pastor’s kids.

  • Have you ever needed some notes off of a whiteboard? Have you ever wanted to grab someone’s notes quickly without writing or typing them? Enter - Qipit. Check it out. Looks pretty useful!
  • Like in 2006, I am headed to the Together for the Gospel Conference in a couple of weeks. Unlike 2006, I am attending alone. If anyone out there knows me and is going, I sure would enjoy the fellowship while attending the conference.
  • As of today, I am officially on Spring Break.  This doesn’t mean too terribly much, other than the fact that I know have no excuse to catch up on all the work that has piled up!

  • Abraham Piper posted on the Desiring God Blog “6 Reasons Pastor’s Should Blog.”  I find this article very providential in light of some conclusions that God brought me to over the weekend while thinking strategically about my church.  Worth the read!
  • If you know me, you know that I am not in favor or “April Fool’s Day” per se, but I am a big fan of having fun with my friends.  Lifehacker blog presents their Top 10 Harmless Geek Pranks.  My personal favorite….the Blue Screen of Death Screensaver!
  • Speaking of stuff that I like…One of these may have to be in my future.  I like fountain pens and the Lamy Safari’s one of my personal favorites.

Around the Horn (12/18)

MP3: I am not sure how I missed this, but Dr. Mohler’s message to the graduating class of December 2006 at SBTS just came across my feed reader.

My Church:  For those who have been wanting to see a picture of the my new pastorate, here it is:

Clemson Football: Here is a recap of the last time that Clemson and Kentucky met in a bowl game.  It was not as lopsided as I am hoping this year’s Music City Bowl will be.  (Sorry Kentucky fans!)

Exposition Preparation:  Steve Weaver has an excellent post and subsequent comment thread regarding his preparation for expositing the gospel of Matthew.

Institution of Marriage: It was only a matter of time before polygamist figured it out…. This BP News article shows how attorneys for some Utah polygamist are using similar arguments that supporters for gay marriage have used.

Audio: Dr. Russell Moore confesses to being a Fundamissional Dean.

Education: Like to learn?  Check out this list of resources for free learning.

I’m Bad!:  Tony Kummer has pointed to John Piper’s confession of his awfulness of sin.  It is quite humorous, I must admit.  You can here the mp3 here.

What About Bob?:  Dr. Mohler has an excellent post this morning on how Bob the Tomato from the VeggieTales is now being censored by new owners, NBC.

Tech: Want your Windows XP machine to look like a Vista machine, even though Vista is not out until sometime in Jan ‘07?  Try this out.  (Note: I have installed this with no problem and really like it, but that doesn’t mean I am responsible for anything that happens.)

Build Your Own Blank Bible: Much talk has opened up recently concerning the Edwards’ Bible being released in the coming months. The Jonathan Edwards Center blog recently pointed toward a blog by Tony Reinke where he is walking through steps on building your own blank Bible.

SBTS Chapel: The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has announced their fall chapel schedule. It looks to be a very wonderful lineup, including John MacArthur on Reformation Day.

ESV Audio: The ESV Bible Blog has announced a new version of the Gospel of John Audio. Check out the blog here for download details.

Happy Birthday: My father-in-law will celebrate a birthday tomorrow, the 17th. I wish him a blessed day.

Teen Sexuality: It appears that teen promiscuity is linked to the music they listen to. Just another reason for parental involvement. Some may consider this censorship with their children. I disagree. I think it is just the responsibility of parents to moderate what goes in and comes out of their teens (or children for that matter).

Family Worship: William Turner has culled all his family worship articles into one post. Good stuff.

Reuters Photo Phumble: No doubt you have heard the countless stories of Adnan Hajj and his photo blooper this past week. If you are on Flickr, you can check out these two pages here and here. Now let me say, I do not approve any of the content in the comments sections…those are not my thoughts; lest anyone think I am pointing to that. I am just pointing to the obviously blatant attempts to doctor situations by doctoring photos. Christians must keep and balanced approach when reading any and all news.

House Churches: I received my copy of the Western Recorder today and the front page article is about the rapid increase of house churches. This is an interesting read….especially for churches who must adapt to culture. I am not saying that every church should go to house churches……but I am saying that some urban cultures may be better reached by small, intimate groups, such as a house church. Like I said, interesting read.
